On July 13, 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a historic 2021-2022 California state budget, committing nearly $5 billion for homelessness. Driven, in large part, to the continued advocacy of our system partners, the final budget contains $1 billion per year in multi-year homelessness funding for cities, counties, and Continuums of Care.
The budget also includes $2.75 billion for Project Homekey, one-time funding for street-based homelessness and innovative approaches to addressing homelessness among families, and key enhancements and significant funding increases to state-funded programs such as HomeSafe, the CalWORKs Housing Support Program (HSP), the Bringing Families Home program, and the Housing and Disability Advocacy Program (HDAP).
