LAHSA Opens Winter Shelters

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) today announced that the majority of its 2021-2022 winter shelter portfolio had begun operations throughout Los Angeles County.

The Winter Shelter Program consists of several temporary emergency shelters that provide a warm place to sleep, food, and access to supportive services and housing assistance to our homeless neighbors.

The Winter Shelter Program will offer 315 beds at 11 sites to help people experiencing homelessness escape winter weather. These beds will be available through March 2022.

The County of Los Angeles and the City of Los Angeles provide LAHSA with the funding necessary to administer the Winter Shelter Program. LAHSA contracts with several non-profit service providers to operate emergency shelters at multiple locations throughout Los Angeles County.

“While many of our winter shelters never went offline in order to provide safe places for people to come indoors during the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re glad to bring our full portfolio online to offer protection from the rain and cold,” said LAHSA Executive Director Heidi Marston. “We’re grateful to the City and County of Los Angeles and the many cities throughout the county we partner with to provide these havens during winter.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, sites have been operating 24 hours a day, serving three meals a day, and are welcoming pets and emotional support animals.

Some winter shelter sites will provide people experiencing homelessness transportation to their sites.

Homeless residents who want a bed at a Winter Shelter Program site must use designated shuttles to access a Winter Shelter Program site. Information about pick-up locations and times are on the attached flyer.

Any homeless residents who have questions about the Winter Shelter Program should call the Winter Shelter Hotline at 1(800) 548-6047. The hotline is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
