When Should I set an HMIS Record to be Private?
There are two situations when you would mark a participant's HMIS record Private:
-
The participant has declined to share their information with other agencies (i.e. selected "No" to Permission
under Release of Information)
- Keep in mind that any HMIS user in the agency who created the participant's HMIS record would still be able to access the participant's information
-
The participant is a victim of Domestic Violence or Human Trafficking.
- For more details on how to address this case read Domestic Violence HMIS Guidance for Homeless Service Providers with Non-DV Programs
